The Canadian Association for Social Work Education (CASWE) is a voluntary, national charitable association of university faculties, schools and departments offering professional education in social work at the undergraduate, graduate and post-graduate levels. Established in 1967, under its former name Canadian Association of Schools of Social Work (CASSW), CASWE is the successor to the National Committee of Schools of Social Work, which, since 1948, had been the forum for programmes offering professional education in social work. The establishment of CASWE reflected a need for consultation and coordination and to have professional staff to assume permanency.
